Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants and technical specialists, working across every aspect of today's built environment. Together we help our clients solve their most complex challenges – turning exciting ideas into tangible reality as we strive to find a better way and shape a better world.
Our Access and Inclusive Environments team works with designers, planners and architects to provide buildings and landscapes that are accessible for all users and maximise opportunity for all, including disabled people, different age groups, different backgrounds, identities and circumstances.
We work collaboratively with the project teams, enabling inclusive design to be an integral part of our solutions.
Working as a multi-disciplinary team allows us to work with a variety of people, on a wide variety of complex projects, including a wide range of existing and new build sites containing elements such as residential, commercial, education, sports, transport and public realm, from concept to tender phase, construction and hand over.
Working with our team, this is an excellent opportunity to learn about inclusive design, develop skills and work on actual construction projects to improve inclusion for end users. The nature of the work is such that you could be working on several projects at the same time and acquiring first-hand experience of applying accessibility and inclusive design standards and good practice across a range of sectors.
Much of the work of an access and inclusive design consultant involves providing expert advice on statutory and policy requirements, technical standards, building regulations, and the practicalities of enabling accessibility and inclusivity in large and complex projects. As such, this summer placement would be an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about access and inclusion in the built environment.
By joining our team, you will acquire project experience from day one and the opportunity to impact the accessibility and inclusivity of our future built environment.
Arup Summer Internship opportunities typically run for 6-8 weeks. You must be available to start on the opportunity during Summer 2022 and commit to completing the programme in full.
