Building Services – Electrical – Summer Internship 

Available locations are Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield 

Our Electrical Building Services Engineers apply their specialist skills to buildings projects across the globe.

We offer our clients a broad spectrum of expertise and consulting services in, but not limited to, the following types of developments: commercial and residential developments, tall buildings, Universities, colleges and schools, hospitals and healthcare buildings, laboratories and research facilities, transport projects, including airports and rail stations, sports facilities and stadia, theatres and performance venues, museums and art galleries, large-scale industrial and manufacturing facilities and data centres.   

We are looking for candidates studying an MEng or BEng in Electrical, Architectural or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent   

Building Services – Mechanical – Summer Intership 

Available locations are Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield and Winchester 

We are currently recruiting for Mechanical or Building Services Engineering Summer Students to join our well-established Buildings teams across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for students that are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the Building Design and sustainability sector to join a multi-disciplinary this summer.

You will provide support to team members to deliver an effective and professional service to our clients on strategically won projects. You will assist in preparing designs in co-ordination with the team, and gain a thorough understanding of the role of a design engineer by using relevant software and seeing first-hand how we operate.

Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have the opportunity to work alongside Architects, Building Services, Building Physics and Geotechnical Engineers, Surveyors and Project Managers. 

We are looking for candidates studying an MEng or BEng in Mechanical, Architectural or Building Services Engineering   

Civil Engineering – Summer Internship

Available locations are Birmingham and Nottingham 

Our Civil Engineers can find themselves working in partnership with our experts in buildings, bridges, tunnels, geotechnics, environmental consulting and transport planning.

Energy, collaboration, and effective communication is fundamental to bring these elements together as our Civil Engineering teams are often at the core of these disciplines acting as integrators or facilitators. Our teams also work closely with many external bodies to deliver the project, from clients and architects to statutory approval organisations.   

We are looking for candidates studying a BEng/BSc or MEng in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering    

Public Health and Plumbing Engineering – Summer Internship 

Available locations are Bristol and London 

Well-designed water supply and foul and sanitation drainage systems are essential to healthy and sustainable buildings. Arup's environmental services engineers (also known as public health engineers) tackle a range of design challenges.

Additionally, on some projects, our environmental services engineers also carry out civil engineering tasks such as below ground drainage design, flood risk analysis and specialist road and pavement designs along with associated earthworks required for new and existing building construction.   

We are looking for candidates studying a BEng or MEng in Mechanical, Architectural or Building Services Engineering   

Structural Engineering – Summer Internship 

Available locations are Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield 

Arup has a reputation for engineering excellence built on some of the most important structures of the last 70 years.  It has maintained this reputation by attracting, training and developing the most promising and perceptive structural engineering graduates.

Those people are now designing some of the most important structures of the next 70 years. They form a network of engineers that is connected across the world, sharing projects and resources, delivering global expertise with local knowledge.  

We are looking for candidates studying an MSc/MEng or BEng in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering   

Sustainability – Summer Internship 

This opportunity is available in London 

Arup's sustainability experts provide support to internal and external building design teams to enhance the environmental performance of our projects.

We provide environmental assessment services which allow clients and external stakeholders to benchmark the environmental performance of their buildings and work with organisations to change their approach to embedding sustainability into their projects.

Our experience encompasses new and existing buildings of all types in countries around the world. We use the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a framework to define how we can take action on our projects to affect change.  

We are looking for candidates studying a degree in Environmental, Architectural or Building Services Engineering or a degree relating to Sustainability, Environment, Energy or the Built Environment 

What we are looking for:    

We're looking for internship students with curiosity, personal drive, design flair and technical knowhow. If you can combine these skills with an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) and a desire to deliver excellent services for clients, we'd like to hear from you.   

Arup summer internship opportunities typically run for 6-10 weeks. You must be available to start the internship opportunity during Summer 2023 and commit to completing the programme in full.
