Markets is the financial barometer of world events. You’ll help institutional investors, like governments and pension funds, to identify market opportunities, manage risk and generate returns for their portfolios in a world of constant change. By doing so, you’ll facilitate the flow of finance that drives the world economy; helping the businesses all around us to grow and innovate.

Working at Barclays

Find out what it's like to work at Barclays.

Research is an ideas factory. We dig deep into the underlying factors that affect the world’s financial markets and provide insights that empower our clients to take key strategic and investment decisions. Research is a centre of subject-matter expertise on the companies, markets and securities that we cover, delivering real time intelligence and long-term vision. It’s vital to the performance of our global investment bank.

About the role

Join us, and you’ll be at the heart of the world’s financial markets, in an exciting, demanding environment where fast reactions and clear analysis of market trends are essential. You’ll be part of a team that’s key to the growth of our clients’ businesses and our own. Working and learning alongside experts in their field, you’ll make sure we deliver the right products and solutions every time.

What to expect

Our Quantitative Analysts are an integral part of the bank, providing model development, analytics and expert advice across many business areas at Barclays. Applying to our programme means the opportunity to join one of our specialist teams, including:

  • Trading Models - Specialised modellers and developers responsible for researching, innovating, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting all quantitative models used for valuation and risk management across all asset classes, valuation adjustments and the capitalisation of market and counterparty risk.
  • Electronic Trading - Quantitative traders, researchers, and data scientists responsible for developing, deploying and running algorithmic trading models and predictive analytics in markets, leveraging the latest methods in data science, machine learning, AI and applied probability.
  • Quant Developers - Strong logical thinkers and problem solvers with a mathematical mindset and an interest in Computer Science, who can program in one or more of our languages (primarily Java, C++ and Python).

You’ll gain the widest exposure to a variety of modelling techniques and instruments to help drive business strategy. This is your opportunity to gain invaluable exposure to real world problems by working on cutting edge quantitative and technology solutions. You’ll develop specialist expertise by helping deliver solutions that improve everything from the way we price derivatives, develop, deploy and run algorithmic trading models, and build strategies to manage risk.

How you’ll develop

This is job-based, hands-on training, as you build your skills on live projects that really matter. You’ll receive bespoke support and coaching from the very best experts: a line manager who wants you to succeed, and a talent coach who’ll be focused on your development. Together, we’ll help you to explore, develop and achieve mastery. We’ll encourage you to learn, at your own pace, all the skills and techniques you need to thrive. Our vast suite of learning materials will always be at your fingertips. You’ll be surrounded by colleagues you can share with and learn from. You’ll gain membership to our global graduate network, with exclusive access to content, events and forums to support and help you develop. And you’ll get the opportunity to have an impact on the communities in which we live and work.

Who thrives here

Logical problem-solvers do well here. You’ll either have completed or be in your final year of a postgraduate qualification of a Masters or higher, in a technical discipline such as Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Quantitative Finance, Economics, Statistics, Stochastic Calculus, Computer Science, or other STEM subjects, with strong programming skills, particularly Java, C++, or Python. You’ll be curious and creative, tech-savvy and adaptable. You’ll be great at communicating and collaborating, as well as competitive but caring. Motivated by pace and pressure, you’ll be driven to achieve and always search for the best solution. You’ll also be ready to develop a deep understanding of what we do, why we do it, and how your role impacts on our business outcomes.
