Markets is the financial barometer of world events. You’ll help institutional investors, like governments and pension funds, to identify market opportunities, manage risk and generate returns for their portfolios in a world of constant change. By doing so, you’ll facilitate the flow of finance that drives the world economy; helping the businesses all around us to grow and innovate.

Working at Barclays

Find out what it's like to work at Barclays.

Research is an ideas factory. We dig deep into the underlying factors that affect the world’s financial markets and provide insights that empower our clients to take key strategic and investment decisions. Research is a centre of subject-matter expertise on the companies, markets and securities that we cover, delivering real time intelligence and long-term vision. It’s vital to the performance of our global investment bank.

About the role

Join us, and you’ll be at the heart of the world’s financial markets, in an exciting, demanding environment where fast reactions and clear analysis of market trends are essential. You’ll be part of a team that’s key to the growth of our clients’ businesses and our own. Working and learning alongside experts in their field, you’ll make sure we deliver the right products and solutions every time.

What to expect

Our quants are highly specialised modellers and developers responsible for researching, innovating, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting all quantitative models used for valuation and risk management across all asset classes. The ability to articulate your ideas will be crucial as you work closely with business partners to develop models and tools, and perform analyses to help guide business decisions, manage risk, formulate and test quantitative strategies, and drive revenue generation and capital utilisation. Joining a group that partners with traders and risk managers across the bank, you’ll gain the widest exposure to a variety of modelling techniques and instruments to help drive business strategy. This is your opportunity to gain invaluable exposure to real world problems by working on cutting edge quantitative and technology solutions.

How you’ll develop

This is job-based, hands-on training, as you build your skills on live projects that really matter. You’ll receive bespoke support and coaching from the very best experts: a line manager who wants you to succeed, and a talent coach who’ll be focused on your development. Together, we’ll help you to explore, develop and achieve mastery. We’ll encourage you to learn, at your own pace, all the skills and techniques you need to thrive. Our vast suite of learning materials will always be at your fingertips. You’ll be surrounded by colleagues you can share with and learn from. You’ll gain membership to our global graduate network, with exclusive access to content, events and forums to support and help you develop. And you’ll get the opportunity to have an impact on the communities in which we live and work.

Who thrives here

Logical problem-solvers do well here. You’ll have completed or be in your final year of a postgraduate qualification, of a Masters or higher, in a technical discipline such as Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Quantitative Finance, Economics, Statistics, Stochastic Calculus, Computer Science, or other STEM subjects, with strong programming skills, particularly Java, C++, or Python. You’ll be curious and creative, tech-savvy and adaptable.
