Vacancy description: 

This is a fantastic opportunity to “earn while you learn” by join the SPS Technologies team and gaining Industry experience alongside completing a 5 year Fully Funded BEng degree in Manufacturing Engineering at Coventry University (course date starting September 2024). 

Main Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Engineers (ME’s) play a pivotal role in the introduction of new product as well as the development, troubleshooting and standardisation of current manufacturing processes.

ME’s contribute to the efficiency, capability, cost effectiveness and quality of the manufacturing process which ultimately directly impacts the success of the business. 

  • Troubleshoot and problem solve on live manufacturing issues using structured problem solving. 
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes using the Lean toolbox/ principles. 
  • Research and implement the latest automation techniques. 
  • Use additive techniques to increase velocity of improvements. 
  • Document and standardise processes. 
  • Support introduction of new product, machines and processes. 

Requirements and Qualifications Required: 

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs, all at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths, English and a Science and one of the following 3. 
    1. A Levels with 112 UCAS points in Maths and Science or Technology or Engineering based subjects, excluding General Studies/Critical Thinking. Minimum C at A level Maths. 
    2. T-Level at Merit or Distinction in an Engineering subject. 
    3. BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at a minimum grade of DMM including a Further Maths component. 


  • Access to HE - Minimum 30 Level 3 credits, with 15 in Maths and 15 in a Science or Technology subject. 20 of the 30 Level 3 Credits to be at Distinction. 

Desired skills and Personal Qualities: 

  • Be able to demonstrate a practical problem-solving mind set and have shown an interest in the engineering field through schoolwork and outside interests. 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to manage your own time and work on multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • You must have an analytical approach and show a strong attention to detail.
  • You will need to be self-motivated, committed and hardworking individual and be able to work effectively on your own or as part of a team.
  • You must have a desire to enter the field of manufacturing and an eagerness to learn and develop. 

Future Prospects: 

The company also aim to offer the apprentice a permanent role at the end of the training (subject to successfully completing course and objectives).
