Graduate Engineer - Network Protocols

September 2019 intake

Roke imagines a more secure world. A world where technology protects, rather than exposes. A world where expert engineers, consultants and business support staff collaborate to protect what matters most to our clients. We are seeking highly motivated and knowledgeable staff to join us working across ground breaking projects within the fields of autonomy, connectivity, data analytics and cyber.

Each day, it is rare that you will have nothing new to learn. Our people use their intelligence to make the world a safer place, by combining innovation, strong industry partnerships and 60 years of experience to offer our clients truly exceptional advice, research and development..

We are offering you the chance to be part of something amazing.

Marine turned cyber security challenger

The Cyber Security Challenge is open to everyone who's new to cyber security, including those who've had previous careers. Tim used to be a marine but is currently studying to become a cyber security expert.

Responsibilities

Our network intelligence solutions encompass all aspects of the value chain, from access and data capture, to high value processing and analytics. We offer solutions to our customers’ operational challenges as well as providing a view of current capabilities and predicted capabilities based on industry roadmaps and Roke’s own research. Typically, our engineers have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects ranging from research/experimental projects to enhancement of mature solutions.

We use a variety of software and develop our network protocols software in languages such as Go, C, C++, Python and Java. You might, for example, be working on development of a network probe for data access. Alternatively, you might produce code to perform real-time network data extraction, data reconstitution, mediation and transformation. If you are interested in analytics further downstream in the processing chain, you might create complex analytics using a stream processing framework for extraction of intelligence relevant to a customer requirement.

An alternative software-based degree or a degree in the Mathematics or Physics will also be considered if it proves that you have the ability and enthusiasm to solve networking problems. Whatever your degree, we require you to have some software programming experience in one or more programming languages.

All our engineers need to communicate to a high standard and work effectively in multi-skilled teams, so good written and verbal communication skills are fundamental.
