Caterpillars Technical Services CAD Project Engineer graduate position works both independently and as part of a dynamic multi-functional team that drives towards a world class facility environment with robust manufacturing processes and systems. This dual function role sits within the Construction & Infrastructure project activities team, both designing and delivering world class layout designs and systems architecture to sustain and develop our facility aligned to achieving the world class facility objectives in the areas of People, Quality, Velocity and Cost. The incumbent will have a solid foundation of CAD engineering skills, experience with project management, be willing to work cross functionally to design, develop and execute project activities whilst maintaining an organised and robust technical information library. 

What experiences can we offer you?

The Technical Services CAD Projects Engineer Graduate will be a key member of the Construction & Infrastructure (C&I) Projects team and report to the C&I Projects Manager.  Required to generate, communicate and manage facility improvement projects to support our continued journey to operational excellence. Work will encompass all aspects of Safety, Quality, Velocity and Cost helping to deliver on key business deliverables. The individual will need to work collaboratively across ALL teams within the facility, to ensure projects are delivered to support our business objectives. 

As a Technical Services CAD Projects Engineer Graduate, your responsibilities are to include: 

  • Management of the design phase within facility improvement projects in support of EHS, Operations and Process Excellence activities.
  • Developing designs and deliver projects for Civil and Infrastructure projects alongside the project delivery team and area owners.
  • Management of sub-contractor scope, procurement / selection, utilisation and payment supporting defined project activities.
  • Maintaining the facility AutoCAD drawings archive and controlling a sequential project log system.
  • Linking with Facilities and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure sitewide asset information is correct.
  • Proactively propose process improvements both within working team and during the design and development of concept designs.
  • Physical measurement of buildings and systems to assure quality of designs and records.
  • Utilisation, development, monitoring and continuous improvement of technical services safety policies and standards.
  • Perform technical analysis for projects relating to facility operations in support of business decisions and reporting project status and key milestones to facility and business stakeholders.

What happens after the graduate scheme?

After successful completion of the rotational programme, you will progress into a key role where you will directly contribute to the operational and project activity that is at the heart of our business. We will provide you with the training and support you need to be successful at Caterpillar.   

Who are we looking for?

It is essential that applicants should have achieved or be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 in one of the following disciplines: Engineering Design, Civil Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering

In addition, whilst we acknowledge some applicants may not have specific skills relating the below; the business will support the development of the successful candidate to fulfil the skills required for this role:

  • AutoCAD and AutoCAD 3D
  • Knowledge of other modelling software programs such as CREO and Inventor.
  • Understanding of Xrefs, layering systems and viewports.
  • Knowledge of building fabric systems (e.g. Electrical, Water, Drainage, Gas, Compressed air) and the legislative design parameters required within industrial settings.
  • Experience and / or knowledge of project management structured approach.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing concepts such as 5S, Lean, CI, Process auditing, Safety Management.
  • Good MS Office IT skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload whilst ensuring defined goals are met.
  • Must be self-motivated, have a can-do attitude to take ownership of issues / deliver sustainable improvements and be an effective team player with the ability to communicate across all functions within business. 


Salary : £31,300, £1000 Sign on Bonus, 10% Annual Bonus, Share Scheme, Pension, Flexible working and 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
