What do we do?

Perkins Stafford Engine Centre is part of the Caterpillar Large Power Systems Division. Employing over 400 people, the facility is responsible for the design, development and manufacture of engines which are tailored to meet the precise requirements of our customers, for use anywhere in the world from the Arctic Circle to the Deserts of Chile, providing power solutions exactly when and where required.  

Manufacturing Operations are responsible for the assembly, test, paint, engine finish and logistics processes within the manufacturing facility. This role utilises the Caterpillar Production System (Lean Manufacturing) Principles to deliver People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) improvements and results.

What experiences can we offer you?

You will have the Opportunity to work on many diverse and important business projects, either as part of a team working on a major initiative or individually tackling complex problems.  Projects may include: 

  • Operational efficiency support
  • Developing and Installing new control processes to maintain repeatability.
  • Compliance process development activities
  • Identifying & delivering opportunities for process & facility improvements
  • Project Management
  • Development into people management
  • Re-configuring existing assets and processes to improve flow, efficiency and product quality.
  • Investigating new, innovative technologies and solutions which can be utilised for production processes. 

You will receive the support and coaching required for you to manage and complete challenging projects, while developing your technical capability and business understanding.  

We also operate a conditional offers process; our highest performing placement students are fast tracked to our graduate development scheme. This includes a financial incentive and the potential of a summer work placement. Offers will be made based on the condition that a graduate role will be available at the time of your graduation and that you will have achieved a min of 2:2.

We hold a Meet and Greet day for all new UK placement students to provide you with an opportunity to meet fellow new starters across the UK before you start your placement.

Who are we looking for?

As the type of roles within our business are becoming more diverse we are looking for people who are open minded, excellent problem solvers and who have an ability to learn quickly. You will be motivated, hard-working, and will embrace change. In return for your dedication and hard work, you will be provided with excellent career opportunities and strong support for your personal and career development to pursue a career within Manufacturing Engineering.   

It is essential that applicants must be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 in one of the following disciplines: Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, General Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Other relevant management degrees may be considered. 

Benefits

Salary : £17,500, Share Scheme, Pension, Flexible working and 25 days annual leave. (Plus bank holidays)
