At Caterpillar, We Build What Matters

It's your career. Make it matter. At Caterpillar, you build what matters – whether it’s the career you want, crucial work skills, strong relationships or new digital technologies.

What do we do?

Stafford is part of Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division. Within our state-of-the-art facilities we are able to design engines tailored to meet the precise requirements of our customers, for use anywhere in the world from the Arctic Circle to the Deserts of Chile, providing power solutions exactly when and where required. Our engines are reliable in a crisis keeping hospitals online, sporting fixtures playing or powering the grid when power stations fail.

What experiences can we offer you?

Each year we recruit highly motivated and capable placement students to take on an important role within our Product Engineering Team which consists of Engineers, Project Managers, Coordinators, Technicians, Sales and Commercial teams across two facilities, Stafford UK and Aurangabad India. You will get the opportunity to make a real contribution and get the satisfaction of working on projects at various stages in the development cycle, from core engine calibration and development through to putting our engines through strict validation and durability testing. During your year out from study, you will have the opportunity to get involved in the following activities:

  • Diesel Engine Performance and Emissions calibration.
  • Mechanical verification and validation of engine components and systems.
  • Failure analysis and defect resolution using industry-standard methods.
  • Coordination of day-to-day engineering activity and management of test and analysis activities.
  • The role will require collaboration with all platform teams based at the Stafford & Aurangabad facilities.
  • Working closely with global Caterpillar facilities.
  • You will receive the support and coaching required for you to manage and complete challenging projects, while developing your technical capability and business understanding.

We also operate a conditional offers process. This means that post university, our highest performing placement students can be fast tracked to our IMechE approved Graduate Development scheme, without having to apply through the normal channels or attend assessment centres.

We hold a Meet and Greet day for all new UK placement students to provide you with an opportunity to meet fellow new starters across the UK before you start your placement.
