Estates Services is a diverse department providing professional Estates management to enable science. The department covers all aspects of Estates operations including managing the significant capital development programme, planned and reactive maintenance, asset replacement, site works projects and improvements. The Estates team consists of professional project managers, MEP design Engineers and core technical staff. The in house team is supported by 3rd party SME’s led through service contracts.
The role will be responsible for supporting the design and delivery of the Estates Electrical, Fire Detection, Sustainability and BMS Projects. To include being responsible for the successful delivery of assigned works to programme and within allocated budget. You will engage with DL partners regarding projects, including the collection of the brief, interpretation of requirements and preparation of specifications, management through the project management office, working closely with the estates teams and other specialists.

This role will see you take on some design lead responsibilities for projects, and handling externally appointed professional teams and contractors.
Summary of Key Duties & Responsibilities
Handle and resolve requests for information from the contractor delivery team to the Estates client stakeholders
Assist in the coordination of contractor works with building user operations, ensuring that CDM requirements and other site standards/policies are implemented
Proactively and strategically plan project construction activities to avoid impacting upon the scientific programme
Collaborate closely with the client to interpret and define project requirements, scope and budget prior to works instruction
Prepare Designs, estimates, specifications and tender documents relating to Projects at Daresbury Laboratory or Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
Instruct, implement and run projects using NEC3/4 processes and protocols, working alongside the project delivery team.
Procurement and supervision of contractors with minimal impact to the site location, including works coordination, integration, Safety and
Project management of various projects incorporating all building fields, with assistance for M & E, Fabric and other specialist trades
Ensure the Users acceptance and sign off the completion of Project works
In order to apply for this role:
Obtained first degree bachelors or Masters, (not doctorate) in a relevant subject in either 2020, 2021 or be due to receive it in 2022
Expected or have achieved a 2:1 or above
The right to live and work in the UK
Good interpersonal skills, particularly in communication, negotiating networking and team building, motivation and problem solving.
Good knowledge of UK building control and the application of current building regulations
Excellent numeracy skills
Good ICT skills, including MS Office and CAD
Good time-management skills.
Able to work well within a team but also show excellent initiative alone and work independently
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulation, especially fire, asbestos and CDM regulations
Post qualification experience of diagnosing building defects and specifying remedial repairs
Approving contractors work quality
Applying legal interpretation of standard forms of contract in particular NEC3
Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary design office
Construction project management experience
