MEng Mechanical Engineering, Newcastle University

Why did you join STFC?

I can see the potential for working on a wide range of projects in interesting and exciting fields as well as working on projects which will eventually have cutting edge theoretical and practical implications.

What have you enjoyed most in your first month?

Quickly seeing a range of projects and working on a design all the way through to manufacture. I was immediately given design work which was great as I could get stuck in straight away.

What do you expect to be working on in the next 6 months?

Hopefully, I will move on from working on a number of small projects to just one larger, long-term project.

What is the best single thing that has happened to you since joining STFC as a graduate?

Seeing the range of experiments in the ISIS target stations.

What is it like to work at STFC?

Every day is Interesting and inspiring.

Tell us about your role in presenting the work STFC does to the general public.

I haven’t done any so far; but the open day and campus activities seem to provide a lot of opportunities for presenting to the general public.

What learning and development opportunities are there for you as a graduate?

Seemingly a lot. I have been on a two-day CRISTAL training course and several people around me have been on other training courses in the time that I’ve been here.

Why do you like working here? What inspires you the most? What benefits do you value the most?

I love the field and scope of the projects and the cutting-edge nature of the work being done here.
