Graduate Trainee

"It’s not just about progression here, it’s about progressing in a direction that you’re happy with."

Toyosi joined KPMG in 2016 and currently works in the Learning Academy. Her undergraduate degree was in Law and Business Management at Warwick University.

“During my degree I fell out of love with Law and became interested in consulting. I took placements at a couple of firms and consulting definitely felt like the right fit for me.

I was initially attracted to KPMG because I have a family member who had a really good experience interning here. When I saw the graduate programme in Tech Delivery I leapt at the opportunity.

I was allowed to choose what department to start in and where I’d like to rotate to – areas like Digital & Mobile, Cloud, and Architecture. Right now I’m in the Learning Academy. I’ve been here for eight months and I’m really enjoying it.

If you’re proactive, there’s really no end of opportunities to develop. I’ve had so much training that it’s hard to keep track of it. I’ve learnt animation and design, core consulting skills, client management, training needs analysis, Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, and how to deal with stakeholders.

And that’s not even all of it. I’m also in the middle of getting my Masters in Information Systems and Technology. KPMG has supported that the whole way.

I’m a part of ACN here — that’s the African-Caribbean Network — which offers internal support, meet-ups and outreach programmes for trainees.

Something I’ve been getting involved with recently is a project called IT’s Her Future. That’s an initiative to bring more women into tech roles. Last month I helped write a paper aimed at female millennials about positive experiences of, and opportunities for, women in tech.

There are so many different ways to develop here and challenge yourself. My advice to anybody joining KPMG is to be curious and open to new challenges, and KPMG will give you all the opportunities to reach your potential.

People who work here are from all different backgrounds and have different skills, but they’re all equally valued for their unique perspectives.
