“After finishing my degree, I knew I wanted to work in Technology. I considered two options: do a degree in technology, or secure a role and learn on the job. At KPMG, I can do both – I’m part of the team, and being funded to do a technology-focused Masters, so it was exactly what I was looking for.
I was also drawn to KPMG because of their values of honesty and integrity. They really align with my personal values. For example, we all have six paid days a year allowance for Corporate Responsibility activities. It’s rewarding to be somewhere I can be myself and give back to the community.
I come from a non-technical background, but was immediately put at ease as others here have the same experience – the programme helps develop your technical capability and you get to learn from some of the brightest in the field.
“There’s something for everyone here, because whatever level of technical development you want to pursue, KPMG provide the support and resources you need.”
I only joined this autumn and I’m already involved in a project that has international presence. It’s an exciting opportunity which will hopefully include some international travel as well!
I really enjoy working in Manchester – it’s a big and lively city, but without the intimidating size. Commuting time is short, and there are lots of amazing brunch places to enjoy at the weekend. I work closely with other offices in different locations too, so you’re never restricted. For example, I work very closely with KPMG’s Powered Finance team in London on the same client projects.
Within Powered Finance I’ll be working with platforms such as Workday and Oracle, which is an extensive area in Cloud computing. My role will involve helping businesses improve or introduce new technologies to make them more efficient by using Cloud tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
Everyone here is open to new ideas. I feel comfortable voicing my thoughts and ideas within the team because I know my contribution will be recognised.
To thrive here, you need to be enthusiastic and willing to learn. There are so many opportunities that it’s really up to you to find what you enjoy – KPMG will do a great deal to support you."
