Job Description

The Environment Division of Mott MacDonald are looking to recruit an Archaeology and Heritage Assistant for a temporary internship position during the summer of 2019 to support our archaeology and heritage consultancy team, based in Cambridge. The team work on large infrastructure and development projects throughout the UK. We are offering a rewarding internship within in our Water & Environment Unit, with exciting opportunities. You will be working alongside a wide range of technical and non-technical staff who will support your personal development during the internship.

This position will involve contributing to work such as:

  • Inputs into and research for archaeology/heritage reports.
  • Walk-over survey.
  • Heritage constraints mapping.
  • Archaeological fieldwork management support.

Candidate Specification

Essential criteria:

  • Currently studying for a BSc/BA or Masters in Archaeology or Heritage related discipline.
  • Good team working and communication skills.
  • Ability to work/learn independently, follow instructions and work to tight deadlines to meet client needs.
  • High standards of written and oral communication and excellent IT skills.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK as required.
  • Good knowledge of British archaeology and/or built heritage.

Desirable criteria:

  • Able to demonstrate a high level of technical / academic ability.
  • A knowledge of the legislation and planning policy relating to archaeology and the historic environment.
  • CAD or GIS skills.
  • Knowledge of professional archaeology, including the role of archaeology/heritage consultants and heritage professional bodies.
