What will I gain from this placement scheme?

Each placement will involve working on live projects under the guidance and expertise of experienced colleagues. As well as gaining hands on experience in your chosen field, you will have the opportunity to connect with people working in the business and discuss your career ambitions and ideas with employees in similar roles.

What will I be doing on the placement?

There are two pathways available, prior to assessment centres, we will call you to discuss your preferences and which pathway may be the best fit.

Manufacturing Software Pathway

Successful applicants are placed directly into the manufacturing software development team, contributing directly to our current product development, as a means of learning software engineering in industry.

Teams will pitch the work at a level geared for the individual, with progressive personal development aimed at creating a confident and productive software engineer over the course of the placement. Projects include data processing, test rig software design, automation, robotics, and integrated engineering. Skills include C#, C++, LabVIEW, PLC and HMI, and SQL.

The entire placement is spent within the Manufacturing Services Division to enable you to get fully integrated into the team, where you will be mentored and supported by the technical staff and our senior managers. You will also gain an understanding of the functional areas within the manufacturing services division (including mechanical production engineering, electronics, and operations).

Software Pathway

Successful applicants are placed directly into a Renishaw software development team, contributing directly to our current product development, as a means of learning software engineering in industry. Teams will pitch the work at a level geared for the individual, with progressive personal development aimed at creating a confident and productive software engineer over the course of the placement.

Programming languages applied are usually C# and C++ with WPF UI and occasionally others depending upon the desired solution and platform that the software is to run on. Our aim is to provide you with a variety of software development methodologies and approaches, including Agile based lifecycles, supported by formal training, throughout your placement year.

A successful placement provides an excellent opportunity for you to be considered for a graduate scheme position in the future.

Where will I be working?

This role is based out of one of our major sites in Gloucestershire - Wotton-under-Edge (Head Office), Woodchester or Stonehouse. As Renishaw sites are based in semi-rural locations, it is essential that applicants have their own form of transport or are willing to relocate to the local area. Sites are within between 25 and 40 minutes from Bristol so easily commutable by car.

What skills and qualifications do I need?

The industrial placements scheme at Renishaw is suitable for students who are required to undertake a sandwich placement as part of their degree course. Relevant degrees include: Software Engineering or Computer Science or similar. Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or similar degrees are acceptable if interest in software is evident.
