At Bombardier, we see trains as more than a mode of transport. Ours is a challenging, innovative, important industry, and we see trains as the future of eco-friendly travel; as outstanding examples of design; and as exceptional feats of engineering. They’re also highly complex projects that need brilliant people to bring them to life and keep them running smoothly.

Together we move - Bombardier Transportation

Bombardier Transportation is a global mobility solution provider leading the way with the rail industry’s broadest portfolio. It covers the full spectrum of solutions, ranging from trains to sub-systems and signalling to complete turnkey transport systems, e-mobility technology and data-driven maintenance services.

Your Tasks:

The Bombardier Bogies Division is the world leader in Railway bogie manufacture.
What's a bogie? Google it. You'll find it's the single most safety critical system on a rail vehicle, sitting between the rails and passenger compartment. At speeds up to 400kph bogies must withstand enormous shock and vibration loads whilst giving the passengers a safe and comfortable ride. Designing bogies is one of the ultimate challenges in mechanical engineering and it takes a team of bright and committed individuals to make it happen. Quality Engineering. On time. On Budget.
Graduates who join the bogies division participate in a two-year (IMechE accredited) development programme. You will have the opportunity to undertake a four-month rotation program through the main functions which make up the bogies division. This includes structural analysis, dynamics, RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability & Safety), bogie engineering, design and warranty support.

A graduate joining one of the bogies teams will be expected, under supervision, to make a direct contribution to the design or integration of components into a bogie. Any given bogie takes approximately two years to progress through design, manufacture, laboratory proving and track testing. This presents an exciting opportunity to make a real contribution to the design of a bogie and to see the fruits of your work.

With an experienced Mentor to guide you and undertaking a variety of training modules, you will work towards gaining a professional qualification while also building both technical and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

You will need a minimum 2:1 Bachelor or Master’s Degree, in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical, Aerospace or Automotive Engineering, from courses with an inclination on the mechanical side. Candidates must have excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for making things happen.
