Join us at our major site in Derby and take pride in working on quality, leading-edge projects that drive your career forward.
At Bombardier, we see trains as more than a mode of transport. Ours is a challenging, innovative, important industry, and we see trains as the future of eco-friendly travel; as outstanding examples of design; and as exceptional feats of engineering. They’re also highly complex projects that need brilliant people to bring them to life and keep them running smoothly.
Quality is a cornerstone of the strategic positioning of Bombardier Transportation as market leader and key for meeting customer expectations. The aim of the Quality career path is to create experts in the field of quality with outstanding leadership skills.
You will join a two year intensive training programme with a series of rotations around our business providing a solid grounding in all aspects of quality, including: engineering quality assurance, project management, business improvement, operational, and supplier quality. By taking an active part in various product, process and system related improvement projects, you will develop a full understanding of the Bombardier Integrated Management System, master a set of quality tools for real life problem solving, and gain knowledge of project management tools and their practical application.
As a graduate working in Operations quality, you will be responsible for maintaining the quality of trains on the production and sale lines. Learning what the major problems are facing the build and how to correct them. You will need to liaise with Methods, Procurement, Change team and others to understand and solve these issues. It is a good opportunity to gain an understanding of how the trains are built and learn about manufacturing as you get to be on the units as they are being built, seeing your changes take effect. Another placement may be in Project quality which is focused on the wider scope of quality within the business. Developing KPI’s, improving lean manufacturing, creating new processes, auditing work done on the production line and performing statistical analysis. The role will involve meeting with customers to discuss their concerns, and creating plans for addressing these issues.
You may get involved with cost control, paperless manufacturing, or technical open items dependant on when/where you join.
With an experienced Mentor to guide you and a variety of training modules to aid your development, you will work towards gaining a professional qualification while also building both technical and interpersonal skills.
You will need a minimum 2:1 Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in an engineering or manufacturing discipline with excellent analytical skills and a passion for making things happen.
