My rise to AdvancedControl Systems Engineer at IHC started at Queen's University Belfast, where I graduated with a BSc in Physics and Astrophysics in 2011. However, after I finished the course I had a change of heart. I wanted to work in Systems. In order to achieve this, I decided to return to education, this time studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a year in industry at Northumbria University from 2011-14.
Soon after graduating, I was thrilled to secure a position as a Graduate Control Systems Engineer at IHC, and it wasn’t long before I jetted off to work on a Carousel project in China. After a successful 12 month rotation in the Hydraulics, Electrical and Commissioning departments, I was promoted to Control Systems Engineer.
In April 2016 I started a 12 month secondment at IHC in Brazil, providing software support to 6 IHC pipelay vessels. This proved to be another success, as on my return I was delighted to be promoted to Advanced Control Systems Engineer. Now settled into this position, I’m currently working on new Reel Lay Systems to be constructed in China in 2019.
My journey so far shows that if you work hard, and you’re passionate about what you do, you can rapidly rise through the ranks and take on significant responsibility within a relatively short period of time.
