Cummins are now recruiting for our 2020 intake of 12 month placements in the UK, which provide a meaningful opportunity for university students to accomplish real-world projects in a professional environment.

If successful on the programme you may be given the opportunity to work part-time during your final year of study and/or be offered the opportunity to return as a graduate.

Our Darlington Technical Operations team are looking to recruit students in the following areas:

  • Design and Validation
.
  • Mechanical Development
.
  • Diesel Calibration Development
.
  • Controls System Validation
.
  • Customer and Application Engineering
.
  • Electrical Systems Development
.

Work will include:

  • Applies basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices to assigned tasks in the development, analysis and release of products and subsystems through the product life cycle.

  • Assists in creating design specifications considering application, cost, weight, performance, product life, manufacture, assembly and service.

  • Verifies design using analysis and or functional testing, interpreting results, driving decisions and assessing risk.

  • Works with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional disciplines to resolve product issues.

  • Evaluates customer needs and aligns requirements with identified customer expectations.

  • Uses prescribed and innovative methods and works with limited guidance.

  • Participates as a team member and actively contributes towards team goals.

  • Carries out partially defined and moderately complex tasks.

  • Demonstrates good understanding and applies knowledge of an engineering discipline.

  • Applies engineering and scientific skills and continues to develop experience in creating engineering solutions.

  • Closing date 31.12.19
  • Shortlisting - January 2020
  • Assessment Centres - February 2020

Qualifications

  • Currently studying a STEM subject at degree level (sandwich placement)

  • Enthusiasm and interest in Engineering required

  • Laboratory Operations – understanding of Laboratory Operations process flow model: Planning, Preparation, Execution, Analysis, Execution

  • Engineering Standards - basic knowledge in Engineering Standards.

  • Technical Documentation - basic knowledge in Technical Documentation.

  • Structured problem-Solving Process - able to understand and apply structured problem solving processes to resolve issues.

  • Structured Design Processes – understand and be able to describe the purpose, content and steps in developing/ managing of a engineering design project

    Training Provided
  • Starting with a comprehensive induction programme, throughout the placement you will be provided with training in sector specific technologies as well as general training such as presentation and communication skills, structured problem solving and Cummins practices and procedures.
