We are looking for an enthusiastic Controls System Validation Placement Student to join our team specialising in Calibration Development for our Engine Business Unit in Darlington. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organisation operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential!

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Responsible for the development, validation and troubleshooting of Software and calibrations for the Cummins’ mid-range diesel engine controls for performance, emissions and diagnostics
  • Using Cummins processes and procedures, using internal calibration management programs as well as industry standard software such as MATLAB
  • Create scripts, collect and analyse engineering data and interpret model based software
  • Tailor calibrations according to customer requirements and to review new engine installations ensuring compliance to Cummins standards
  • Works with other engineering disciplines and cross-functional disciplines to resolve product issues.
  • Applies engineering and scientific skills and continues to develop experience in creating engineering solutions.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Currently studying a STEM subject at degree level which includes a 12-month industry placement
  • Enthusiasm and interest in Engineering required
  • Structured problem-solving Process - able to grasp and apply structured problem solving processes to resolve issues.
  • Engineering Standards - basic knowledge in Engineering Standards and Technical Documentation
  • Laboratory Operations – knowledge of Laboratory Operations process flow model: Planning, Preparation, Execution, Analysis, Execution
