Job Description

With CGG’s strategy now focusing on data and cutting-edge technology, a new Machine Learning (ML) Hub is being created in our Massy centre, near Paris in France. Initially the roles created in this Hub will focus on R&D on deep learning (DL) for seismic data processing and analysis. Our challenges are very complex due to specificities of seismic data: high dimensionality, noise, physics constraints… The problematics are many and the data abundant. In a second stage, the Hub will evolve towards other industry challenges related to geosciences and new opportunities totally outside of our existing business.

You will get the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and will play a vital part in shaping directions for the Hub, which will offer many exciting R&D opportunities. You will develop codes to test your ideas, and then support the implementation into our software, used internally by our worldwide production teams. These tasks will include but not be limited to:

  • Implementing, optimising and industrialising the best DL algorithms for given tasks.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders including production teams, R&D peers and management.
  • Promoting our technologies to R&D, production and our external customers (scientific publications, presentations at seminars, conferences, etc.).
  • Developing knowledge by reading academic publications and attending technical presentations.

About you

Are you excited by creating innovative neural networks and extracting knowledge from uncommon data? Can you contribute to the development of new industrial usages of DL? Do you enjoy solving hard problems in a challenging context? If yes to all of these - we would love to have you in our ML Hub.

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in producing and industrialising new tools, and helping our clients to understand how DL can improve their business. Collaboration is a key aspect for the success of the ML Hub. The candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to impress!

You are likely to be educated to a Master degree level in any of the following disciplines but a combination of education and experience will be considered;

  • Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Physics, ML or similar.

Required competencies

  • Strong experience in developing and debugging in Python and at least one of other main languages (C/C++, java…).
  • Experience with DL frameworks and usage of DL libraries (TensorFlow…).
  • Experience in code optimisation and industrialisation.
  • Passion and aptitude for programming and technology.
  • Good understanding of Mathematics (including algebra & probability).
  • Ability to show initiative and agility for complex problem solving.
  • Proficiency to design, implement, test and support innovative solutions.
  • Entrepreneurship mindset and flexibility to adapt to new challenges or changes in direction.
  • Enjoy collaborating innovation.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Fluent English.

Preferred competencies

  • GPU programming.
  • Physics understanding.
  • As the position will be based in France, French language basics would be helpful.

Learning and Development

Our culture and approach to career development enables the design of tailored courses to suit specific needs of each individual. We accompany technical, commercial and personal skills growth.
