Team Lead Data Hub

MSc Petroleum Geoscience, Heriot-Watt University; BSc Petroleum Geology, University of Aberdeen

I have been with CGG now for almost 9 years and I can honestly say it has flown by. It has been such an exciting whirlwind of experiences, learning and growth.

I graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2011 with a BSc in Petroleum Geology and after a brief stint as a mud logger went on to study for a MSc in Petroleum Geosciences at Heriot Watt University. I absolutely loved the application of geological sciences to the energy industry and I just knew I wanted a job working in frontier exploration; so the role of Graduate Geoscientist in CGG’s Llandudno office was exactly the opportunity I was looking for.

The first few years of my career I developed a solid technical grounding, from palaeogeographic mapping the Black Sea Basins to exploratory fieldwork in Madagascar and presenting my findings at conferences all around the world. During this time I discovered I enjoyed the people aspects just as much as the technical and found the environment at CGG a great place to develop my leadership skills with promotion to Geoscience Team Lead for Africa after a relatively short period.

Since 2019 I have had the opportunity to work as a Team Leader in CGG’s Data Hub where I am responsible for operations and growth. The Data Hub is a team of geological subject matter experts and ML, Data and Software engineers who work together to create innovative solutions to digitally transform a vast and diverse array of geological data from legacy hand-written reports in Spanish and rock cores to geochemical measurements of lithium brines.

I’m sure all of us know the pain of trying to find a key bit of data that you need for your interpretation or searching for hours through various versions of reports not knowing which is the latest. So we solve exactly that problem!

CGG Data Hub is an innovative, dynamic and diverse team, working in a fast paced environment and solving problems at the forefront of our industry, but critically we are a fun team!

As well as learning something new every single day, from a deeper understanding of the subsurface to a new SQL query to help me rapidly pull out the data I need, I find myself laughing and smiling every single day.

I feel truly privileged to be in a leadership position and what I now love most about my job is that everyday I have the opportunity to support our team to achieve their absolute best.
