If you want work experience that really counts, consider a placement with Phillips 66. We are now looking for a Mechanical Engineering student to join us for a One Year Industrial Placement in 2020. Your time will be spent either on specific projects or working alongside our experienced Mechanical Engineers. This is a great opportunity to put your theoretical skills into practice and gain invaluable experience within a business environment. Should you do well during your time with us, you may be considered for full-time employment at the end of the placement.
We have recruited the last four of our graduates through this route. The placement has an annual salary of £23,377 - £28.772 (depending on years of Degree completed) pro-rata plus 6 weeks accommodation, free lunches and free on-site gym.
The placement provides an excellent opportunity for the candidates to commence recording experiences to contribute as evidence towards IMechE Chartered Status. We do run an approved MPDS for our graduates and can provide you a mentor through the placement. Although you wouldn’t be registered through Phillips 66, we can certainly assist with all aspects to ensure your competencies are fully documented to upload as previous experience which is permitted when you come to register, so no time is lost.
We offer a structured placement, initially setting goals with your immediate manager and monitoring these throughout the placement. The business teams you could work are below with a short description - chosen based on your interest area coupled with business need. We do attempt for candidates to obtain an appreciation in at least 2 positions.
Central Engineering Role - team accountable for completion of Maintenance Project Work including equipment repair, modification and replacement, providing an opportunity to develop your understanding of pressure vessel/heat exchanger design codes, piping design codes, project engineering & budgeting working alongside our engineers.
Rotating Machinery Role - team accountable for the mechanical integrity and reliability of machinery repair, modification and replacement, providing an opportunity to improve your knowledge of pumps and compressors used on a refinery.
Business Team Role - team accountable for the mechanical integrity and reliability of the assigned Business Unit mechanical assets (pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pipework etc.), providing technical support to the refinery operations & maintenance teams by trouble shooting emergent problems. Also, providing assistance in developing the long-term maintenance scopes for major future maintenance events, providing an opportunity to improve your understanding of the function of the refinery's maintenance & operation teams.
Fitness for Service Role - team accountable for assessment of mechanical defects found through continued inspection programs/process hazard analysis programs/upgrades of equipment to latest technology on fixed equipment typically located on a refinery (Heaters, Storage Tanks, Pressure Vessels, Piping, Heat Exchangers) to ensure safe and reliable operation of the refinery.
