We are seeking to develop the next generation of leaders and directors for James Walker for both technical and management roles, underpinned by Engineering excellence.

Experience gained from the programme shapes future leaders for the organisation. Critical industrial engineering projects underpin each placement, and are enriched by the cultural experience from the different locations, and the variety and type of work undertaken. On completion of the programme both you and James Walker will know what type of role fits you best, and how your career can grow in the company.

Responsibility from Day One

Participants benefit from three 10-14 month placements within different James Walker companies. Subject to Covid-19 and visas we expect at least one placement to be based outside of the UK. Typical responsibilities include working on material or product development, developing a business case, project management, design, prototyping and validation, production engineering (automation and control), through being an applications engineer in a sales company dealing with customers. We offer both a dedicated engineering specialism career path and an operational management career path, Graduates who want to pursue operational management can take responsibility for business change projects within the company. Those who want to specialise can be developed to be our future engineering experts. Every graduate has a say in their placements.

Development and Training

You will have accountability for, and will be challenged and mentored to take on, big projects that matter to our customers and to the business. We support this with coaching by senior directors, and training programmes. We have an accredited MPDS scheme with the IMechE, and can also sponsor Chartership with the IOM3.

What we are looking for...

Applications are sought from driven and self-motivated graduates, qualified in:

  • mechanical engineering.
  • mechatronic engineering.
  • manufacturing engineering.
  • materials engineering.
  • or related disciplines with strong engineering content.

Candidates must have entitlement to work in the UK, must have/expect to achieve a high class degree (minimum 2.1 or equivalent). Fluency in English is mandatory. Skills in other languages would be advantageous. Unfortunately we are not able to support applicants that require sponsorship for a Visa to work in the UK.

Headquartered in the UK with operations around the globe. We work on mission critical sealing applications in partnership with blue chip engineering customers. Our manufacturing centres of excellence do tend to be in rural locations and are most suited to those who enjoy the great outdoors! We expect at least one placement to be based outside of the UK. Roles start in September through to November.
