Global Research is a division of Global Banking & Markets and has over 500 employees across 20 countries.
On our 13-month industrial placement, you can learn how research is used to help our corporate and institutional customers. There are opportunities to carry out the placement in either FX, Global Economics, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Economics, Fixed Income, Equity Research or European Economics.
As part of your placement you will be an integral member of a top-rated research team and the range of responsibilities you assume will be wide and challenging. You will help coordinate regular research contributions from our London office and, as you gain more experience, will get the opportunity to contribute to these research pieces yourself. As you progress, you may also have opportunities to present at morning meetings and provide immediate analysis of economic news to the trading floor. In doing so you will gain valuable insight into the sales and trading businesses with whom we work closely.
You will gain exposure to all areas of Global Banking and Markets – invaluable in helping you make informed decisions about your future career. This is reflected in the significant number of our previous placements students who have subsequently secured a full time position at the bank.
The research we do in Global Banking and Markets is important because of the confidence it gives our customers in our advice and services. On this internship, you can expect to gain a better understanding of how we build client relationships using research to back up everything we do for customers. You’ll work with a team of professionals who are keen to help you develop your understanding of how Global Research works. You’ll share knowledge, question what you don’t know and learn to respond to questions from customers.
No matter what degree you’re doing, you’ll become part of the team. You’ll realise the importance of keeping on top of market news, economic data releases and day-to-day news flows. You’ll learn about macroeconomic, sector and company-specific research and how these affect the services we offer our clients.
You’ll also familiarise yourself with our trade strategies, business targets and analytical methods, working with research analysts and economists to understand how we use these tools. And you’ll realise the extent of our international presence by sitting in on calls with our US, Asia and UK teams.
