During the off-cycle internship, you will learn more about the breadth of HSBC on a specialised desk, experience our culture and values, as well as network and engage with some of the best financial minds in their field. If you are successful on this internship, you will be extended an offer to join the Graduate Programme in July 2022.

Overview

Our Global Banking Internships will inspire you to apply your skills in an international business and allow you to explore your interests within either Corporate Banking or Investment Banking.

Opportunity starts here

This is your time. Explore every possibility and grow.

What you can expect

You will gain an introduction to one of the most dynamic areas of our business. We drive the growth of our clients’ businesses through a balance of generating trust and analysing markets in order to raise capital. Whether you are in Corporate Banking or Investment Banking you will be involved in exciting projects that will give you an insight into how determination, courageous decision-making and logical thinking are essential to our work and how these businesses work collaboratively together. You will learn about the products and services we offer across our international network and connect with supportive colleagues in multiple areas. With their help and guidance, and some formal training, you will build your strengths so you can drive your development further.

What you will do

In Corporate Banking, you will gain first-hand experience of how our relationship managers, working closely with our product specialists, create innovative solutions to meet the banking needs of our largest corporate and institutional clients. You will have the opportunity to understand how we build trusted relationships with our clients, gain a great overview of the breadth of products HSBC can offer and see how we respond to our clients’ need by deploying these products into tailored solutions across multiple countries. You will also see how we help the bank manage the risk inherent from dealing with these clients, to ensure we foster a sustainable business model.

In Investment Banking, you can get a taste of how we work closely with clients to understand their long-term strategic goals. This enables us to deliver tailored financial and advisory solutions designed to meet the individual needs of our corporate, financial and public-sector clients. Working alongside industry experts, you’ll develop a wide range of skills and knowledge.

Your time here will be challenging and you’ll gain a breadth of experiences and gain a good understanding of what we do, from debt and equity capital raising, advisory, corporate lending, leveraged finance, asset and structured finance, real estate, infrastructure and project finance, and export credit.

Who does this suit?

We are looking for dedicated, courageous and curious people who are:

  • Fast learners. You will collaborate with new people on constantly evolving projects to help our clients. Quickly building your knowledge will give you credibility when working with colleagues and solving client problems
  • Intellectual curiosity. Our Global Banking business has a unique breadth of products in terms of what we offer and where we offer these solutions
  • Strategic thinkers. We might be an international-focused bank, but it’s critical to our success that we consider local strategies, becoming regional guides for our clients. This means having an analytical and strategic mind and focusing on client objectives
  • Supportive team players. Teamwork is an important part of our business, and your development. Having a collaborative attitude will help you build a network of peers who are there to support you, and be supported too

Learning and development

We take your learning and development seriously so that you get the most out of your internship. Your time with us will begin with a one-week induction that will give you an overview of HSBC, our business and culture, and how Global Banking fits into the overall structure. After this, your placement will provide you with a combination of practical experience and classroom training. This will help you to develop your technical skills and give you a detailed insight into our markets.

At the beginning of your internship, you’ll be set measurable objectives and receive feedback throughout the 10 weeks. There will be many people you can call on for support. Your manager will be able to give you guidance on your career options. You’ll be assigned a mentor who will help you to get the most out of the experience, and a buddy to share ideas with and who you can call on for advice.

There will be regular business and social events to attend so you can build a network of global contacts, which will prove invaluable to you in the future.

We offer a market-competitive pay and benefits package according to your role and location.

What can this lead to?

Perform well and you’ll be considered for our Global Banking Graduate Programme, where you will specialise in either Corporate Banking or Investment Banking, gaining a further understanding of that business area. You will learn more about our products and services, and how you can provide sound advice for clients. Bring the right mindset and this internship could potentially lead you on a challenging and rewarding journey.
