Graduate Transport Planner

"The culture at WSP and the support from the team really encourages you to continually do your best, and the wide range of opportunities that are on offer mean there is always the chance to work on something new. "

After completing a Transportation Planning & Engineering MSc at the University of Southampton, I joined WSP as a Graduate Transport Planner in 2021 as part of the London team.

Since joining, I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in a wide range of projects, which is one of the aspects I enjoy most about working at WSP. I’ve been provided with the opportunity to work on a mix of public and private sector projects, which range in size from small-scale transport interventions to multidisciplinary international projects. This has really helped me to diversify my skill set, and enabled me to gain an strong technical foundation early on in my career. As a graduate, gaining a broad understanding of the industry is really important to my professional development, and both my line manager and project managers have supported me in doing this and made sure I’m continuously learning new skills with the projects that I’m working on.

In addition to technical experience, WSP has encouraged me to grow my professional network through a combination of virtual and in-person early career professional networking events. These have been a fantastic way to get to know other graduates as well as more senior colleagues within the company, and have provided a great opportunity to socialise with like-minded individuals.

Aside from the career related benefits, the social culture at WSP is great too. The social club for the office organise regular after work events, which have given me the chance to get to know my colleagues outside of the office, and has been really beneficial as someone who has moved to a new city for their graduate role so has helped me to build a strong social network and settle in.

So far, my graduate experience has far exceeded my expectations. The culture at WSP and the support from the team really encourages you to continually do your best, and the wide range of opportunities that are on offer mean there is always the chance to work on something new.
