Graduate Engineer

"There are plenty of opportunities to learn and you will receive the support to do so."

I am a Graduate Engineer in the Bridges team in Glasgow. I have been with WSP for 1.5 years now as a Graduate Engineer, following my 3-month summer internship. My team is very supportive and there is no judgement on any questions I have. It has been a steep learning curve where I have gained experience in management, health and safety and technical aspects of bridge engineering.

Highlight of the year? Would have to be the noticeable progress that I have made on Principal Inspections – going from learning how to inspect the structures and write the reports to sharing my knowledge with others, working with the Client and assisting in managing a 2-year contract.

Why should you join my team?

If you are looking to expand your technical, management, commercial and health and safety knowledge – WSP is the right choice. There are plenty of opportunities to learn and you will receive the support to do so. Safety is the focus of any activity and questions are encouraged. WSP delivers work to a very high standard, giving a chance to work with the technical leaders and working on a variety of projects.

The team is expanding fast and professional growth is encouraged. There are also secondment opportunities, allowing to learn from other teams, such as for example Sustainability or Digital. Apart from a great learning experience, WSP allocates days for you to contribute to social causes through volunteering work.

The team I work with is very open and keen to organise activities. I also had a chance to meet other graduates through the PGN (Professional Growth Network) which would organise socials such as for example bowling.
I receive a lot of support from WSP on my route to Chartership, including being able to experience various aspects of work such as management and commercial.

I attend regular Chartership meetings, where advice is shared and I can request any additional support. On top of that, I have regular meetings with my Delegated and Supervising Engineers who help set out and achieve career goals.
