We are locally dedicated and propelled by international brainpower. We are technical experts and strategic advisors, including engineers, technicians, scientists, architects, planners, surveyors and environmental specialists, as well as other design, programme and construction management professionals.

Our experts design lasting solutions in the property & buildings, transportation & infrastructure, environment, industry, resources (including mining, and oil & gas) and power & energy sectors as well as project delivery and strategic consulting services. And safety and sustainability are embedded in everything that we do.

About the Role:

Join us for a placement at WSP and you’ll find yourself challenged in more fascinating and far-reaching ways than ever before.

You’ll explore new and inspiring opportunities to make the most of your expertise, broaden your professional horizons and create exciting new possibilities for people, organisations and future generations.

A typical week would include:

Where can I work?

  • Engineering consultancy

Our engineering placement students work across a variety of WSP teams and disciplines. They work directly with clients to plan and design projects, alongside contractors who carry out the construction. This means consistent communication with the client, contract management, and consideration of the use of materials, environmental impacts, costs and ease of maintenance.

  • Environmental consultancy

Our Environmental placement students work alongside our environmental consultants in many different roles in a variety of teams across our Environmental discipline. They're involved in the planning stages of developments and carry out environmental assessments, from noise and vibration assessment to environmental management.

Our teams work on some of the most exciting projects in the UK and beyond from redesigning London’s train stations to planning new wind farms in Scotland.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • You’ll be studying at University in an Engineering discipline or related subject
  • You’ll be passionate with the curiosity and creativity to identify and solve problems
  • You’ll want to stretch and inspire us, speaking up about any new ideas you have
  • You’ll want to throw yourself in from day one and put your studies into practice
  • You’ll know it is important to keep everyone in the loop and will demonstrate this through excellent communication skills
  • You’ll enjoy working in a team environment, sharing ideas and collaborating with colleagues
  • You’ll have confidence to work under pressure with the ability to prioritise and plan effectively

What you’ll get from us:

  • A competitive salary
  • Experience of working on live projects
  • Influential communications
  • Support throughout with guidance from your peers and senior team members
  • 25 days' holiday per annum plus bank holidays (pro-rata)
  • Flexibility on length of placement

How long does the process take?

You'll receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application within 48 hours of submission. The majority of our placements will be confirmed by the end of April each year, however we do recruit right through until summer or until all placements are filled.

We will match as many applicants to placement opportunities as possible, however each year we receive far more applications than there are places available, and therefore you will be only contacted if your preferences,  background and skills match our available placements.

What if we can?

Think bigger scale. Think higher profile. Think groundbreaking. Join WSP, and you’ll be at the heart of a team of international experts all dedicated to growing and sharing their expertise, and working on projects that transform society for all of us.

We've signed the Gradcracker feedback pledge.

(This means that we will supply feedback if requested after an interview.)
