We are excited to be looking for a Geotechnical Engineering Apprentice based in Manchester! You will work towards achieving a Level 6 Degree qualification in Civil Engineering.
Geotechnical Engineering is the branch of Civil Engineering which focusses on the engineering behaviour of the soils and rocks beneath our feet - Geotechnical Engineering combines Civil Engineering with geology. Most construction projects require Geotechnical Engineering to be undertaken at some point, which means that Geotechnical Engineers play a vital role on a variety of different projects.
Some examples of these projects include highways, railways, tunnelling, bridge foundations and dealing with natural hazards (such as landslides, earthquakes etc.).
Join us and you’ll have the chance to work on world class projects as part of our Tunnelling and Ground Engineering (TGE) team in Manchester. You will be supported in learning new skills using specialist software, learning design principles and standards and assisting in delivering - and adding value to - our projects.
You will be involved in assisting in the development of geotechnical designs, drawings and calculations and supporting construction and ground investigation site works. You will work towards achieving a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering through blended learning which generally involves 4 days per week of working and 1 day per week of study during the academic term.
You will be supported throughout your degree apprenticeship including being assigned a dedicated mentor to help you work towards achieving Incorporated Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
At Jacobs, our Apprenticeships provide an exciting opportunity to ‘earn whilst you learn’, combining practical training in a full-time job with a qualification designed for the industry.
The Geotechnical Engineering Apprentice will play a role in providing technical solutions on projects. They will also work with others within the multi-disciplinary team and assist in the production of designs and associated project work.
