We currently have an opportunity for a Graduate / Engineer / Scientist with an interest in flood risk management to join our multi-disciplinary Water Environment team based in Glasgow. Primary Job Responsibilities:

Our Water Environment team provides strategic, feasibility and design advice to a range of clients including the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities, utility companies, highway agencies and national rail companies.

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for supporting a range of flood risk projects, including surface water management plans, flood risk assessments, feasibility studies and business case development for flood risk management schemes.

You will develop a technical appreciation of fluvial and pluvial hydrology and hydraulics, surface water drainage, and economic analysis. As part of our Graduate Development Programme, we will also positively encourage the development of complementary technical and project delivery skills and provide opportunities and training for this.

Your key responsibilities would include:

  • Data capture and spatial analysis
  • Undertaking hydrological and hydraulic analysis
  • Estimation of economic flood damages
  • Identification and appraisal of flood risk management options
  • Preparation of technical reports
  • Working with the wider Water Environmental team in the Glasgow office, as well as others across the UK

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Relevant 2.1 Honours Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Physical Geography or Environmental Science.
  • Sound knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, and structural and drainage design fundamentals
  • A keen interest in wider natural processes and water related issues
  • Excellent numeracy and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges

Desired:

  • Knowledge of industry standard flood estimation and hydraulic modelling techniques for flood risk assessment and management
  • Application of GIS software such as MapInfo, ArcGIS and QGIS
  • Graduate member of CIWEM or ICE
  • Holds valid driving licence.
