The Rail and Geotechnical Business unit consists of over 875 people, with people located in virtually every office within the UK. The rail part of the business includes Network Rail, TfL and HS2 amongst its biggest clients, with the geotechnical business serving virtually every operating unit within BIAF as well as cross line of activities into the nuclear and mining sectors.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, Graduate OLE engineer to join our growing, world-class rail business. You will support our Birmingham team in projects and have the opportunity to develop your career and shape exciting projects, such as HS2, East Coast Power Supply upgrade 2, Western Rail Link To Heathrow and Asset Protection.

The role is varied and will be based in Birmingham to provide OLE support across the UK, but also support teams in other parts of the UK as we possibly expand to York so could potentially be York based too.


About us.

Primary Responsibilities:

Ongoing training, development and mentoring with be provided to junior members of staff. The successful candidate will support the professional team on their projects objectives on tasks such as:

  • Various types of Overhead Line design.
  • Feasibility studies, outline and detailed design technical reports and other written documents.
  • Design of detail allocation and construction design.
  • Design of the assessment on the OLE of horizontal and vertical track alignment schemes.
  • Production of design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents.
  • Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification.
  • Representing the company on technical matters.



  • Minimum 2:1 in Engineering field, such as Mechanical Engineering.
  • The Jobholder should be thoroughly conversant with the use of MS Office suite.
  • An understanding of the development of spread sheets.
  • Familiarity with production of drawings using MicroStation CAD package and BIM.


  • Professional or academic experience of working on projects.
  • Some understanding of legacy OLE systems (MK1, UK1, MK3B).
  • Desire to work on Network Rail projects, formal experience highly desirable but not essential.
