As a key member of the Commercial Team, our undergraduate placement provides a development opportunity to work on the capital delivery framework, delivering clean water and waste water projects across our network.

The primary objective of the framework is to design and build new infrastructure, repair, maintain or improve existing assets in accordance with Severn Trent’s business outcomes set out by the regulator OFWAT.

You’ll be working closely alongside Project and Commercial Managers to deliver projects efficiently and commercially administer the projects for the full project lifecycle in the most robust manner.

During your placement you’ll develop knowledge in the following areas 

Commercial and Financial reporting

  • Working with surveyors to ensure that contracts are placed in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
  • Administer the contract, supporting the Project Manager in assessing and issuing contractual notifications
  • Support in the completion of monthly Cost and Value reports using the appropriate Severn Trent software.
  • Assist with preparation, maintenance and agreement of Final accounts
  • Assist with control of project documentation
  • Supports Team carrying out variety of tasks to aid with Learning development.


As this is a placement, this role focuses on developing you, and adding value to the work we do. We would therefore expect candidates to have the following 

  • Basic Understanding of the Water Industry (commercial awareness)
  • The ability to work effectively and efficiently both individually and as part of a team
  • Have a strong drive to deliver
  • Good communication – Able to communicate both positive and challenging messages
  • Working with others to gain their input, to ensure the best outcome for Severn Trent
  • Being a responsible team member – actively contributing to discussions, constructively challenging the project team and working practices to achieve a better outcome
  • Build relationships within the direct and wider team.

About you – We’re looking for driven undergraduates, on track to achieve a degree in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying.
