School Experience Programme

One of the best ways to find out if a career in teaching is the right choice for you, is to spend time in a classroom. This will give you the opportunity to speak with experienced teachers, schools’ staff and pupils. In turn, completing the programme will strengthen your application and provide you with real classroom experience to draw upon for potential interviews.

There are currently hundreds of schools throughout the country participating in the programme, so there should be a local opportunity available.

Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE)

Don’t hold back from applying for teacher training in biology, geography, maths, physics, chemistry, computing, design and technology, or a language because of your subject knowledge confidence. You may be able to build your knowledge through a Subject Enhancement course.

You may consider completing a SKE course because:

  • Your degree wasn’t in your chosen subject, but is closely related
  • You studied the subject at A level, but not at degree level
  • You have relevant professional experience, and a SKE course would show you how to apply that experience to the curriculum and teaching
  • You would benefit from a short refresher course in your chosen subject

SKE courses are fully funded and could take from 1 week to 28 weeks dependent on your current subject knowledge.
