My role as the Chemistry and Performance Engineering placement student at Pembroke has been an exciting and fulfilling experience from day one. My role has given me the opportunity to experience different sides of the business and work closely with colleagues across different disciplines. This has been key in the development of my professional communication skills. Since the start of my placement, I have been working on a variety of individual and group projects alongside routine responsibilities such as daily monitoring of Pembroke’s water/steam cycle chemistry and water treatment plant and the completion of meeting minutes on a weekly basis.
My work has allowed me to develop my own technical knowledge, perform data analysis and develop predictive models, greatly improving my confidence using technical softwares. The variation in my role has enabled me to develop a more intuitive understanding of steam cycle chemistry whilst also gaining an insight into the commercial and risk management aspects of the business – both at Pembroke and in the wider energy market. My placement has been a fantastic experience so far and I am excited to continue developing skills that I know will carry with me into my career as an engineer.
