This position is for a Networking Products Engineer Intern to join Intel's Ethernet Products Group, located in Swindon, UK.

We're looking for a university student who has a keen interest in computer hardware and software and wants to do hands on work developing future computing platforms. Experience with or strong desire to learn advanced Ethernet networking is a plus.

You will be a member of a team which specialises in the design of computer platforms (both hardware/software) for a wide range of next generation Intel products supporting major European customers focusing on advanced Ethernet technologies. You will be involved in lab activities, working with the team and actively participating in customer support.

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Working with customers to help them design in products including board level schematic design and review, troubleshooting with issue replication and debugging
  • Learning about the latest Ethernet technologies such as Precision Time Protocol.
  • Working on next generation proof of concept and demo designs with sales teams and key customers
  • Gaining a deeper understanding of PC hardware from desktop to server.
  • Working and influencing engineering and product design teams
  • Working within a global organisation with teams based in multiple time zones
  • Providing lab support to the team
  • There is scope for getting involved in other exciting projects outside of day-to-day responsibilities.

The start date of this role will be July 2022.

Qualifications

This is a 13-month fixed-term placement for students currently studying a degree course in relevant technical background. This position is suitable for mainly Electronic/Computer Engineering students who are currently in their 2nd year of studies as part of 4 years bachelor's degree or 5 year master degree which include a year working in the industry.

Candidates must be based in the United Kingdom upon the start date of this internship, and for its entire duration. We are unable to support remote working from outside the UK.

Skills needed to be successful at this role:

  • Familiarity with the Linux operating system
  • Familiarity with C/C++ programming
  • Genuine passion for technology and a curiosity to understand how it works, with a hands-on approach, as well as passion to grow your knowledge and continuously learn as the role and technology evolves.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both customers and engineers
  • Capable of working unsupervised by prioritising work and focusing on meeting agreed objectives in required time-frame with good attention to detail.
  • Work through complex problems and innovate
  • Familiarity with computer architecture hardware/software from desktop to server hardware
  • Familiarity with basic Ethernet networking

An opportunity to develop/nice to have:

  • Ethernet Networking including protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP
  • Exposure to advanced networking use cases such as telecommunications and automotive
  • Analysis of network traffic at the packet level
  • Python programming
  • Exposure to working with server-grade computer hardware
  • PCIe knowledge
  • Experience using tools such as PCIe (peripheral component interconnect express) analyzers and oscilloscopes.

At the start of your internship, you will have a one-month handover period where the current intern in your role will walk you through your responsibilities as an intern.
