The opportunity

Health & Safety Graduate Scheme within our Vehicle Manufacturing Plant – Burnaston, Derby. This is a 2 year scheme with a guaranteed job at the end of it.

The vehicle manufacturing plant at Burnaston, Derbyshire opened in 1992, making it Toyota's first European manufacturing plant.

Your time here:

Over the two year scheme you will be involved in a variety of projects and activities, including:

  • Use data analysis, to support innovative and creative problem solving to develop activities to improve the safety performance.
  • Support reactive incident investigations and countermeasure activity.
  • Analyse and interpret government/legal guidelines into a practical and logical process for use at TMUK.
  • Directly support an area of the business to develop safe working procedures, safety culture etc.
  • As well as supporting on projects for example on new equipment installation, and contractor management.
  • Support the development of members and Supervisors across the organisation through training and coaching.

Whatever you’re working on, it will stretch your problem solving skills and introduce you to people at all levels. Although a challenging scheme which will be consistently testing your abilities and capabilities, there’s plenty of support from your mentor, section manager, and colleagues.

Personal development of all members during their career is of significant importance and to support this specific health and safety training is provided , for example machinery safety leading to CMSE (Certified Machinery Safety Expert)

Learning and Development opportunities and about the Programme:

All graduates will take part in line training. This means that for six weeks you will work alongside our production members to build the cars down on the shop floor. Although tough, this experience is extremely rewarding and interesting and gives you a real hands-on insight into what Toyota Manufacturing is all about. We believe this experience is crucial for your personal development and rather unique to our company.

During your two-year scheme, you will assume responsibility for key projects in your area as well as completing several of our learning and development courses. The scheme is frequently assessed and designed to help you reach the standard needed to move into a specialist position at the end of the programme. Courses include:

  • Formal Progression Reviews
  • The Toyota Way
  • Personal Planning
  • Presentation Skills
  • Health and Safety
  • Plan, Do, Check, Act
  • Toyota Business Practice (Problem Solving)
  • Emotional Intelligence.
