We are currently recruiting for our Graduate Training Programme. This is a 3-year scheme based in our Edinburgh office, starting summer 2021.

This Graduate training programme will be based in our Technology Development Team. 

As a Graduate Trainee, you will gain business experience through continuous training and the opportunity to rotate within the team. Following successful completion of the programme, you will move into a permanent position where you will continue to develop your career.

Position Summary:

As a Graduate Developer, you would join one of our existing development squads and be exposed to the full software lifecycle. You will also have the opportunity to learn multiple technology stacks including Oracle PL/SQL, Java and/or .Net/WPF.

Software Development

  • The Graduate Developer shall be involved in the development of new functions and modules for the SFCM products.
  • Development tasks should be completed in accordance with the agreed technical specifications & unit test scripts
  • Assignments are delivered on time.
  • Liaise with Development Director, Solutions Architect, Technical Architect, Senior Developers as appropriate to ensure the specifications and estimates are accurate where any ambiguity arises
  • Follows the companies Coding Standards & Design Patterns & Operating Procedures

Software Support and Maintenance

  • It may be necessary for the Graduate Developer to work in Support as and when required to assist in the management and resolution of support cases.
  • Participates in the support Rota – answering support calls received by telephone or email
  • Assist when required, in the analysis of support issues and provide guidance and knowledge to the support teams.
  • Technical innovation
  • The Graduate Developer shall take a proactive approach to technical innovation.
  • Investigate new technologies as appropriate suggest these for introduction to the product roadmap
  • Review and implement software tools where applicable to improve quality, efficiency and reduce cost.

Knowledge Transfer

  • Active involvement in the knowledge transfer mechanism to allow staff to gain knowledge and understanding of the development cycle
  • Show a willingness to increase business knowledge and become more system functionally focused.

Training

  • Working with their manager the Graduate Developer shall identify external technical training required.
  • The Graduate Developer shall look for internal opportunities to improve their skills both within and out-with business hours.

  • Knowledge and Experience
  • Knowledge of, or experience in the ‘Agile’ development methodology.   Attending Daily Scrums
  • Experience of working in a team on a particular stack.
  • Experience of working with financial markets applications, ideally with exposure to both real-time and also database transaction processing applications is beneficial.

Industry Experience – Desirable

  • Beneficial to have experience of the Securities Finance market and a general appreciation of other aspects of the Financial Markets
  • Technical Development Skills in Java, .Net development, PL/SQL.
  • Understanding and use of Source Control, Jira.

Communication Skills

  • Actively participates in Team Discussions.
  • Actively communicates to Development Director, Technical Architects, Solution Architects and peers.
  • Challenges the norm, actively looks to seek out new opportunities to improve the Company’s processes.

Qualifications

  • You must be eligible to work in the UK
  • You should be a recent or current graduate and have achieved or be expecting a 2:1 or above.
