Alexandra Nokes

Project Manager

"Mace have since given me a large amount of responsibility early on and push you to achieve your goals."

What are your main responsibilities as a graduate?

Currently I am leading a team of 5 people to deliver the project from a PM perspective – I sit above all the work streams that they manage (MEP, architectural, structural). I liaise between the client, design team and contractor, ensuring programme milestones are achieved, the design is aligned and on site issues are resolved.

How did you get into what you do?

I did a summer placement with Mace between my third and fourth years at university and joined via the grad scheme following graduation.

How have you found the graduate scheme at Mace?

It was very insightful and I learned a lot from the projects we had to undertake and the days training. I enjoyed learning about the different sections of the business and how different areas of construction function

Why Mace?

I was drawn to mace due to the volume of opportunity with clients and within the project life cycle. Mace have since given me a large amount of responsibility early on and push you to achieve your goals. The projects are very interesting and support from line managers and the wider business is excellent.

What your roles includes e.g. typical activities and key responsibilities

  • Leading a team of colleagues from mace
  • Administrating the contract – ensuring the contractor builds to the contract and also issuing variations to this contract
  • Liaising with the client throughout the project lifecycle ensuring their design becomes reality

What makes Mace a great place to work?

The team of people and support from my sector. There are options to move sectors for new experiences if you wish, to move between consultancy and construction and also to move abroad

What training you have received?

Mace offer a wide variety of extra curricular training – including CSCS cards, H&S and asbestos training, contract courses for many different types, and also the experience to become chartered

The best and worst pieces of your job

Being able to see designs come to life and to see tangible outcomes, and to be proud of the work that a team of professionals have created

How their career has progressed at Mace

I started as a project assistant and reached project manager level after 2 years, with the prospect of achieving senior manager level in the near future.
