VSL have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Civil Engineer to work for us on the High Speed 2 (HS2) project, a high-speed rail line that will provide a non-stop link between London and Birmingham.

VSL has joined with Keller in a joint venture (KVJV) to support the High Speed 2 (HS2) project on the C1 section. Align, a joint venture of Bouygues Travaux Publics, Sir Robert McAlpine and VolkerFitzpatrick, awarded the contract to KVJV.

The Bouygues group

Created in 1952 by Francis Bouygues, Bouygues is a diversified group, structured by a strong corporate culture and whose businesses are organized around three activities:

The section consists of 21.6km of high-speed rail infrastructure between London and the West Midlands including a 3.37km viaduct and twin-bore 16km tunnels under the Chilterns. The KVJV’s scope of work is to construct the piled foundations for the viaducts, grouting works, retaining structure for four ventilation shafts, and ground improvement works for the execution of the tunnel cross passages.

Job Purpose and Scope:

Supporting our prestigious HS2 project the Graduate Civil Engineer will learn and develop the skills necessary to support the project in the co-ordination and control of the onsite construction process. Working with a Site Manager or Project Manager the Graduate Civil Engineer will be given responsibility for a project section or work package to ensure that the site build progresses in line with the plan.

Our graduate programme will start in September 2022 but there is the potential to start earlier if you have already completed your degree.

Essential & Desirable criteria:

  • A 2:1 in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • A genuine interest in the construction industry

Graduate programme

You will be enrolled onto our graduate programme which is a two year structured training scheme. The programme is designed to enhance and develop soft skills and technical capability through a blend of classroom based learning and on the job training.  Our programme offers a balance of training and on the job learning to support your transition to becoming an accomplished professional. Graduates will take responsibility and accountability for their careers, while we offer guidance and support to help you reach your goals. We will support your route to chartership and give you the opportunity to develop different skill sets outside of your specialism.
