We are looking for an ambitious individual with some experience of the gas sector to join the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC). This position would suit a Gas Engineer or a Project Manager with ideally 3 or more years’ experience of the gas sector.  The candidate needs to be driven by the opportunities that innovation can unlock for the industry and beyond.

At the EIC, we scan the globe to find innovators that can develop ground-breaking new ideas that can that improve efficiency, safety and reduce CO2 for our major industry partners from the gas, electricity, and water sectors.
We then accelerate the deployment of these innovations into business as usual. Our role is challenging, worthwhile and important.

Role Summary

  1. Seek out new innovators, technologies, and value-adding service providers
  2. Be the main point of contact for technical queries relating to the gas network
  3. Assess, critique, and launch tender opportunities and market research programmes on behalf of UK Gas Distribution Networks (GDNs)
  4. Develop credible technology developments and trial propositions, in conjunction with innovators, for consideration by industry and external investment partners
  5. Assist with the technical due diligence required to support industry investment
  6. Develop project plans for presentation to industry partners
  7. Assist innovators in identifying potential markets for their technologies
  8. Identify and manage issues and blockers in relation to project investment and deployment of technologies
  9. Manage the relationship with our network partners
  10. Contribute to the growth and ambition of the EIC

Requirements:

  • At least three years’ experience in a technical or project management role in the gas sector
  • A degree or equivalent in an engineering/science & technology subject
  • An understanding of industry regulation
  • You will be a commercially-minded and motivated self-starter, with a flair for innovation
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders at all levels of seniority and to a non-technical audience
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills
  • An excellent team player and relationship builder
  • Pro-active and positive attitude
  • Self-motivated with a focus on delivering outputs
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Full UK driving license

Desirables:

  • Previous authoring experience
  • Small to medium group facilitation experience
  • An understanding of the legal and commercial factors associated with product development
  • Knowledge of the RIIO regulatory period and of innovation funding streams
  • Experience of GDN operations, planning, investment management, policy and standards

Pay and benefits: 

  • Salary between £35,000 - £45,000 (depending on skills and experience)
  • 25 days' annual leave
