I did my Master’s placement with Sisk on the Capital Dock project and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I learned about the Excelerate programme from a number of colleagues and they all couldn’t speak highly enough of the benefits and advantages of doing the programme.
Excelerate is a programme designed to train and develop the leading construction professionals of the future.
I found it intense but there was constant contact to reassure me of how the process was going and how I did. Also, the feedback provided on the interview process by Sisk was very useful.
I have been assigned a mentor with whom I am in regular contact. He helps me with my quarterly reports and helps in any way that he can if I have any queries about my career.
The Emerging Talent team who manage the programme are also an incredible resource and are always available to answer any questions.
My colleagues on site are an incredible help, they are always keen to help with any issues that may arise.
One of my best experiences has been when the scaffold was stripped down on an area of my current project to reveal the Brick façade which I have been managing the past 6 months. It was very rewarding to see the fruition of all those months of work.
My weekly tasks include checking on the Brick layers to ensure that they have all the details the need, quality checks of various aspects of the façade and weekly reports on progress of the façade during the week.
I have found it very challenging to manage my work life balance, it is very easy to get caught up in the project and forgot to take time for yourself but with the help of my more experienced colleagues I believe I am getting better at ensuring a good balance.
Embrace the challenge of the programme and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
