The role

Our Water Business Line is continually in demand worldwide for projects involving coastal and river management and the enhancement of the environment. Our broad knowledge and experience enable us to find practical solutions for the most complex of problems, for example flood risk management against the backdrop of climate change and coastal erosion.

You will work within the Water UK team, take on responsibility and contribute to the project team which may include other disciplines within the company. Working closely with technical leads you will develop your skills and assist in delivery of project work. You will have involvement with individual clients with whom you are expected to promote a positive working relationship and be expected to plan your own time and assist the team leader and project managers in determining the resource requirements for your work.

You will be in a position to plan your route and have the drive and enthusiasm to reach Chartered status.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the delivery of the Local Business Plan in terms of identifying private sector and developer services opportunities and supporting growth in these market areas.
  • Appraising the feasibility of alternative solutions, and designing solutions to reduce flood risk in the fluvial and coastal environment, including appropriate calculations.
  • Undertake numerical analysis as required including use of computer-based programmes to assist with analysis, notably in terms of fluvial and coastal projects, e.g. flooding, wave, sediment transport modelling, etc.
  • Contribute to the production of assessments, studies and reports in the field of Water Management.
  • Producing drawings and models and checking those produced by Technicians.
  • Specification and management of 3rd parties undertaking surveys and investigations.
  • Supervision of construction or investigations.
  • Undertaking other tasks within the field of coastal and rivers engineering or according to the wider business needs.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an ICE accredited course.
  • Ideally some experience of working in civil engineering in a work placement or other experience of working in an office as part of a team.
  • Use of Microsoft Office and Autodesk products.


As Royal HaskoningDHV operate projects with a BIM approach, you are expected to be aware of the UK BIM framework (previously known as BIM Level 2), your role within it and ideally have practical experience. If this is not the case, you will be expected to undertake the relevant training courses via our Digital Academy within your first 3 months of employment should you be successful.
