Graduate Hydraulic Modeller – Water

About Our Water Business

Our Water Business is continually in demand worldwide for projects involving flood resilience, water management and the enhancement of the environment. Our broad knowledge and experience enable us to find practical solutions for the most complex of problems, for example flood risk management against the backdrop of climate change and coastal erosion.

Role Context:

The role will be to apply numerical models to solving complex flood resilience and coastal erosion problems using the latest software to support our clients with their projects.

You will work within a team where you will be expected to take on responsibility at an early stage. Your involvement in and contribution to the project team which may include other disciplines within the company will be actively encouraged. You may also be involved directly with individual clients with whom you are expected to promote a positive working relationship and be expected to plan your own time and assist the team leader and project managers in determining the resource requirements for your work.

You will be in a position to plan your route and have the drive and enthusiasm to reach Chartered status

General Responsibilities:

  • Fluvial modelling (1D and 2D approaches using various software packages)
  • Coastal Modelling (Waves, Currents, Tides and Sediment)
  • Drainage modelling and design
  • Management of data.
  • Hydrological assessments applying FEH.
  • Commissioning and management of sub-contractors
  • Presentation of Results.
  • Reporting.
  • Application of GIS (ArcView and QGIS) to a wide range of projects
  • Use of scripting (Python) to automate processes.
  • Flood and coastal risk assessments;


  • Well organised and with a strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work logically to solve complex problems.
  • Good communicator (Written and verbal).
  • Good team player to contribute to dynamic group.
  • Motivated to succeed.
  • Good writing skills.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Keen to learn.
  • BSc or Msc in Engineering or Science with a focus on hydro informatics.
  • Undergraduate work experience with application of GIS or models.
  • Experience of modelling packages.
  • Experience of GIS
