After completing my masters in Coastal and Marine Environments, I was unsure of which job I wanted, however I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the marine environment. During my job search, a position for Graduate Marine Environmental Consultant at Royal HaskoningDHV came up that attracted me due to the diverse job role and the world-renowned projects that the company had been involved in.
Since starting Royal HaskoningDHV in September 2018, I have been involved in a range of projects – from small coastal management projects, to large-scale port and offshore renewable energy projects. The thing I enjoy most is the variability of my role, which over the last three years has grown from small supporting roles to Project Manager positions. I have had a lot of freedom to explore different sectors and work with other departments within the company. For example, I have recently worked on a Coastal Strategy with the Water department, and a pipeline project with the Maritime and Aviation department.
As a graduate, I took part in the Graduate Launch Scheme which has been beneficial to my report writing, project management and client-facing skills. Recently, I have been involved in Royal HaskoningDHVs Mentoring programme which matches aspiring employees with established and experienced leaders in a variety of fields to share knowledge and provide support. The programme has provided a structured opportunity for me to learn from senior leaders in the company and has been a great way to network.
One of the most positive aspects of working at Royal HaskoningDHV are the fantastic Environment team that I am a part of, who have been encouraging and supportive, and have offered their time and expertise to guide me through new and challenging concepts. Going forward, I am looking forward to taking on more responsibility and developing my skills to cement my position as a successful Environmental Consultant.
