My career as a Civil & Structural Engineer began when I joined Royal HaskoningDHV in 2012. Since then, every day has brought a variety of challenges, exciting projects and unique opportunities. From the very beginning I felt an important member of the team and believe I contributed to the success of projects and the business.
In addition to my day to day project work my development was supported by RHDHV’s graduate LAUNCH programme. During the programme, we undertook a series of training modules specifically tailored to aid graduate development. From training to work in different cultures to learning key business skills, the graduate programme laid the foundations to my career. In the process, I was fortunate to develop strong relationships with fellow graduates – many of which now hold senior roles within RHDHV.
One of my primary aspirations since the early days of my career was to become a Chartered member of the Institute of Civil Engineers. I was encouraged to begin the RHDHV ICE training scheme and I was quickly allocated a Delegated Engineer and a Supervising Engineer. Together, we formulated a structured development plan to obtain the necessary experience and qualities to successfully obtain membership of the ICE. Several years on, I am now a Senior Engineer taking on variety of lead roles on large scale multidisciplinary projects.
There are a few stand out moments in my career to date, but the most memorable is certainly the 9 months I spent on site in Lima, Peru. Not only was I working on an internationally prestigious project, but I was able to live within a different culture, practice a new language and work with unforgettable individuals.
The variety of projects within RHDHV is genuinely unique and certainly keeps things exciting; one week I could be designing a new distribution warehouse in the East Midlands and the next I am designing a shipyard in the Middle East.
