Newcastle Innovation Centre is the home of R&D for P&G’s Dry Laundry business. The Modelling & Simulation (M&S) group at Newcastle Innovation Centre is offering a 12-month Postdoctoral placement starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong technical background and a passion for applying science to real-world cases to prove their capabilities!

In this role the candidate will:

  • Apply Discrete Element Method (DEM) software tools to answer questions related to our products and processes.
  • Develop and maintain the infrastructure for DEM M&S at P&G.
  • Work with software vendors to develop and advance our DEM modelling capability as needed.
  • Support, develop and grow the DEM M&S community in P&G.
  • Demonstrate ownership for their projects, driving the development and application of the capability in this area.
  • Have the opportunity to present their work to Senior Management and work within professional and entrepreneurial multi-functional teams in one of the company's major business categories
  • After the first year, there will be the possibility to renew the position or to make it permanent if both sides agree.


Requirements (skills / experiences) for the role:

Minimum requirements:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering and math subjects.
  • A PhD thesis focused on particle-based simulations (e.g. DEM, Molecular Dynamics, etc.).

Desirable requirements:

  • A PhD thesis focused on DEM Modeling and Simulation.
  • Proven knowledge (through publications, presentations or reports) of how to set up, calibrate and validate DEM models to solve business problems.
  • Solid Understanding of LIGGGHTS/Aspherix and/or commercial DEM software.
  • Strong Knowledge of coupled CFD-DEM methods and tools.
