Subject Expertise

In addition to professional studies, we deliver training specifically designed for your chosen subject, or in the case of primary for your phase, across all subjects of the National Curriculum.

At the heart of great teaching lies both excellent subject knowledge and understanding of how to teach it. In subject-specific training, you will develop your subject and curriculum knowledge and understand how to teach complex ideas.

In Secondary training, you will also practice teaching strategies for your subject, like setting up an experiment in a chemistry lesson.

Mathematics

Training to teach Maths provides you with the privilege of seeing the sum ‘click’ in the minds of your pupils. Sharing your passion for Maths with your students allows you to transform the subject from one that can seem daunting to an achievable, powerful skill to harness.

Our comprehensive programme ensures you have everything you need, from support to expertise, to develop into a fantastic Maths teacher for your pupils quickly. In addition to your professional studies, you’ll benefit from training designed explicitly for the Maths subject. You will learn:

  • A process to plan a series of examples to model mathematical ideas.
  • Models to teach technical language and definitions in maths.
  • How to design tasks and exercises which develop students’ judgement and decision making.
  • Fall back strategies and responses for misconceptions and errors in students' work.

Did you know, you don’t necessarily need a Maths degree to be a Maths teacher? You could still qualify, if you have a degree or A-Level in Engineering, Physics, Economics or Finance, to name a few!

Physics

By sharing your passion for Physics with young people through fantastic teaching, you’ll be giving them the knowledge and skills they need to broaden their horizons, pursue the sciences and wider areas of study. You’ll open up their futures to a vast number of exciting career opportunities.

In addition to your professional studies, you’ll benefit from training specifically designed for the Physics subject with our Teacher Training.

You’ll be provided with everything you need, from expertise to support, to become a fantastic Physics teacher for your pupils quickly. Our comprehensive programme ensures that you’re equipped with the skills to teach complex scientific ideas while continuously improving your subject and curriculum knowledge. You will:

  • Learn how to consolidate and update your subject knowledge in topics.
  • Learn how to support and structure debate in science lessons.
  • Learn how to set up a science practical and give a demonstration.
  • Observe experienced teachers deliver a practical in a lesson.
  • Teach the power of the story of an equation.
  • Learn how to teach subjects such as convection, electricity and energy.
  • Learn how to embed science capital into school life.

Did you know you don’t necessarily need a Physics degree to be a Physics teacher? You could still qualify if you have a degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science, and so much more!

Chemistry

As a trainee Chemistry teacher, you’ll benefit from the programme’s balance of theory and practice to quickly develop into a fantastic science teacher.

Our comprehensive programme provides you with the support and expertise needed to develop into a fantastic Chemistry teacher for your pupils quickly. On top of your professional studies, you’ll benefit from training that’s been designed specifically for the Chemistry subject.

A balance of great subject knowledge and an understanding of how to teach your subject is the recipe for a great science teacher, so we support you in developing your subject and curriculum knowledge and understanding of how to teach complex ideas. You will:

  • Learn how to consolidate and update your subject knowledge in topics.
  • Learn how to support and structure debate in science lessons.
  • Learn how to set up a science practical and give a demonstration.
  • Observe experienced teachers deliver a practical in a lesson.
  • Convey power of the story of an equation.
  • Learn how to teach enzyme activity.
  • Learn how to embed science capital into school life.

Did you know you don’t necessarily need a Chemistry degree to be a Chemistry teacher? You could still qualify if you have a degree in Art Restoration, Pharmacology or Forensic Science, and a lot more!

Biology

As a Biology teacher trainee, you’ll be taught the skills needed to introduce students to significant scientific processes, from the human body to the natural world. Sharing your passion for Biology with young people will set them up with the skills to succeed in a diverse range of careers, broadening their horizons and opportunities.

In addition to your professional studies, you’ll benefit from training specifically designed for the Biology subject with AET Teacher Training.

You’ll be provided with everything you need, from expertise to support, to become a fantastic Biology teacher. Our comprehensive programme ensures that you’re equipped with the skills to teach complex scientific ideas while continuously improving your subject and curriculum knowledge. You will:

  • Learn how to consolidate and update your subject knowledge in topics.
  • Learn how to support and structure debate in science lessons.
  • Learn how to set up a science technical and give a demonstration.
  • Observe experienced teachers deliver a practical in a lesson.
  • Learn how to teach genetics, enzyme activity, evolution and natural selection.
  • Learn how to embed science capital into school life.

Did you know you don’t necessarily need a Biology degree to be a Biology teacher? You could still qualify if you have a degree in Archaeology, Forensic Science or Biomedical Science, to name a few!

Computing

As a Computing trainee, you’ll be helping your pupils discover and harness the universal language of the future.

You’ll have the privilege of seeing that ‘lightbulb moment’ as young people, through excellent teaching, find the whole world at their fingertips and broaden their academic and career horizons.
