Position Summary

Our Graduate programme offers the opportunity to explore a variety of areas within the business to gain insight into our customers and products.

Instron - Capabilities in Materials Testing

Our machines evaluate the mechanical properties of materials and components using tension, compression, flexure, fatigue, impact, torsion, and rheology.

How the programme works:

Core Induction (2 weeks) - You will be introduced to your mentor, be trained in our products, learn about our customers and our business philosophies and spend some time on the science behind what we do.

Business Orientation (12 weeks) - You will spend time in core parts of our business, meeting people and having a range of experiences from “a day in the life of…” to getting a complete overview of that part of our business. This stage will help you to piece together how all the different parts of our business fit and work together.

Assignments (up to 6 months each) - You will have the opportunity to undertake three assignments in different areas of our business. This gives you the chance to go back to a part of our business that really interested you in Stage 2 and spend more time there, actively participating in life in that part of our business.

Graduates on this programme will have the opportunity to apply for permanent roles towards the end of the scheme. One or more of the vacancies is likely to be a commercial role within the Business Team. This group works with our sales organisation around the globe to promote our innovative products. And is responsible for understanding the application requirements, and competitive situation for each project to create the most appropriate, and competitive solution for our customers’ needs

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Excellent communication skills, being able to interact effectively with others.
  • A self-starter who can use their own initiative to achieve goals.
  • Able to work autonomously as well as within a team environment.
  • Able to quickly learn broad technical/engineering concepts and the underpinning details.
  • Solution orientated, with a track record of providing workable solutions through analysis, creativity and innovation.
  • Can present themselves effectively and explain technically complex issues clearly.
  • The ability to use their own initiative to make decisions.
  • Pro-active, energetic and thrives on challenges. Willing to go the extra mile to achieve deliverables.
  • Flexible with the ability to work calmly under pressure.
  • Possesses a “can do” attitude with the necessary tenacity to achieve results.
  • IT literate; a competent user of Microsoft Office.

Skills and Experience

  • A placement year spent in an Engineering led industry would be highly beneficial.
  • Experience of working with our testing machines would be very desirable.
  • Experience of working on projects.
  • Experience of working within teams.
  • Documented examples of using own initiative to be innovative and creative would be an advantage.

Education and Qualifications

  • Hold a 2:1 Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a suitable Engineering or technical subject. This could be in a broad-based subject (e.g. Cybernetics or Mechatronics), or in a specific traditional subject like Materials Science, or Electronic Engineering.
  • Knowledge or proficiency in engineering tools/systems/software would be highly advantageous.
