If getting direct experience of the many different mechanical engineering specialisms required to keep our railways up and running matters to you. You matter to us.
Nina, Integrated Talent Solutions Advisor, runs through the recruitment process, from psychometric tests, to virtual interviews and assessment centres.
Our Mechanical Engineering placements offer a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts, be able to share your experiences with other placement students, and develop a sought-after skill set that will complement the knowledge you’ve gained during your studies.
With a limited number of placements available, this is your chance to gain a prestigious role that could lead to the offer of a place on our graduate scheme in the future.
We look for logical thinkers. People who can find creative solutions to challenging problems. Resourceful and hardworking, you’ll know how to manage your own time to get things done. You’ll be a natural communicator, capable of building relationships with colleagues, suppliers and customers alike. And with the potential for training and development opportunities throughout the country, you’ll be flexible, and comfortable traveling.
Whether you’re playing a part in delivering ambitious improvements to track equipment, or rejuvenating and servicing our current infrastructure, this placement offers plenty of scope to apply your theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges.
Depending on where you are based, and what interests you, there’s opportunity to get experience in many different specialisms, such as power distribution, plant, traction and rolling stock, as well as asset management and infrastructure engineering.
We’re passionate about developing the next generation of talent that will come into our industry, and that means we’ll ensure you’re surrounded by supportive colleagues, and receive coaching from senior staff.
Do well on your placement, and we’ll consider you for next year’s graduate scheme intake. Many former year in industry students go on to hold senior positions within our company.
You’ll be in your penultimate year at university, and on track to achieve at least a 2:2 in an Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) accredited degree.
We've signed the Gradcracker feedback pledge.
(This means that we will supply feedback if requested after an interview.)
